Waternet towers

Herman HERTZBERGER

The Water Management and Sewerage Service is the leading wastewater treatment company in the Netherlands.

This office building is located in a prominent location on the Amstel River, facing south of Amstel Station. The two tower parts are connected to each other by bridges.

The towers' different levels are connected by transparent skywalks, one of which is double-height. The eighth and ninth floors form the heart of the building. Here, there is an urban plaza with a meeting centre and a conference room, and windows offering a breathtaking view of the surroundings.

The building also has an innovative structure.

The western tower rests on a plinth, designed to be a grass-covered dam. The plinth houses a parking garage and service spaces. The eastern tower sits on stilts in a large pond, from which rainwater is filtered for reuse in the building.
